Welcome to Steppin' Out New Mexico's new web site. Thanks for visiting us. Although our new site is still in its infancy, there's already MUCH to see, enjoy and use here.
We've been thinking, talking, and planning about the creation of this new site for over a year. We realized in the summer of '04 that as costs of gathering news, writing articles, printing and distributing 25,000 copies of our paper publication every two months continued to rise and the demand for our service continued to grow, we needed to find ways to vastly increase our ability to publish and circulate news to a wider audience at a lower cost. This new site is our answer to that challenge. We hope you'll agree it does a nice job of that.
We encourage you to take a moment to register as a user and supporter of our site. We promise not to "spam" you. We will not share your email address or member information with anyone. But as a registered Steppin' Out user, you can easily contribute to our local and statewide news.
We've gone out of our way to make it easy for anyone who registers to become one of our reporters. In fact, we encourage you to do that! We want to make YOU the eyes and ears of Steppin' Out across New Mexico. From Lordsburg to Tucumcari and Farmington to Roswell we hope you’ll take the time to tell us about events we should publicize. So, if you know of an event you think we should feature, please take a moment to post a message in our Forums and tell us all about it!
Frankly, we don't care if the event you post about is your historical society's museum show, your elementary school's art exhibit, your dance academy's next recital, your Choir's Christmas Musical, your favorite band's next gig, a firemen’s picnic, a Boys & Girls club gymnastics class, a food pantry's fundraiser, an art lecture at the library, a Ladies Auxiliary rummage sale, a flea market or farmer's market, or larger and more elaborate events like the Albuquerque or Socorro Balloon festivals. If it's happening in New Mexico, we want to hear about it. It's that simple.
We've provided places for you to report and publicize almost any event here. So, if you'd like to encourage New Mexicans to come to your town, and attend and enjoy your event, we want you to think of Steppin' Out as the place for New Mexico Arts and Entertainment events to be publicized!
So, please take some time to browse and enjoy our new site. You can begin on our front page, which is filled with arts and entertainment news of local, statewide, national and international importance. You'll find dozens of links here to everything we could find that may interest you. Some links will take you to our own New Mexico arts and entertainment articles, which are written and published, in our traditional format. Others will lead to a variety of local, New Mexico, national and global arts and entertainment news sources like the New York Times, the BBC, the Boston Globe, National Public Radio and other sources you may recognize and enjoy. Many of our sources (especially those from NPR) will even play back audio recordings of programs aired by the news organizations involved.
The news feeds on our front page and on our traditional news page will be updated daily. So, anytime you have a few minutes to catch up on what's happening in arts and entertainment, feel free to drop in and read the latest news from New Mexico, the U.S. and the world.
While you're here, be sure to visit our new Classifieds where we collect and publish ads from artists, entertainers, businesses, publishers and individuals who have products or services to sell around the state. Although we've started small, we expect our classifieds to grow rapidly. In addition to classifieds, we also offer banners ads and display ads too.
Each Display Ad or Classified Ad you place with us will run for up to two months for a one-time fee. Each ad can also include larger fonts, italics, bold and colors. However, extra charges do apply for print ads that require these features. We impose no word-length limits on online classified ads; but if you want your ad to appear in our paper publication, you must limit it to no more than 20 words to avoid extra per-word charges. Online classifieds cost just $20 for 60 days and you can also include a photo in your online ad. At your request, we'll also print your 20-word ad in our paper edition in black and white (without large fonts, colors or images) for $10 extra. We think you'll find our ad rates quite reasonable. Besides, where else can you show off your product or service to thousands of New Mexicans every day for as little as $20 for two whole months? The truth is we've got tons of plans for this site and because it's designed to be multimedia, there are oodles of things we can do too. For example, we’ll soon begin to feature links to news sources that include video. We may also start recording and releasing video snapshots of events we attend. In addition to the things you already see here, a new online art gallery is also planned where artists, artisans and writers will showcase and sell their works.
In short, we expect this site to change and expand rapidly in coming months. So, please bookmark it now and plan to return and visit us often.
As we designed and created this site, we didn't stop with our new front page, our new classifieds or our future plans. There is much more here than the news on our front-page here. Be sure to visit, browse and post your events in our Community Information and Events Forums, and our Statewide News Forums. Also, be sure to visit our "traditional news" section. That section includes links to news about non-art subjects -- like the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, NASA and the space shuttle, the wars in Iraq and on terrorism, the middle east, local, regional and national politics and more.
All visitors should find something of interest here. You can read our news, explore our links and visit our sources. Registered users will also be able to comment on the news, update our calendars, contribute reviews, provide feedback, and report on upcoming events as well.
