Música Antigua de Albuquerque to perform “Tricks of the Trade”

How did they do it? Secrets of early composers will be revealed in a program by Música Antigua de Albuquerque entitled “Tricks of the Trade,” a concert of music from the Middle Ages and Renaissance, performed with voices and period instruments. The six musicians of the ensemble will present works from ancient times on recorder, crumhorn, shawm, sackbut, portativeorgan, medieval lute, vielle, rebec and viola da gamba.

The program will feature a number of works by anonymous composers, as well as those by such luminaries as Josquin des Prez, Thomas Morley, Guillaume de Machaut and Heinrich Isaac.

Some of the “tricks” to be exposed include the ways in which composers used canon, hocket, text painting and other devices to produce their musical masterpieces. Performers for "Tricks of the Trade" include Hovey Dean Corbin, Jr., Sheldon Kalberg, MaryAnn Shore, Dennis Davies-Wilson, and Art and Colleen Sheinberg.
