Alamogordo- Governor’s Commission Meets at Space Museum to Discuss Future Plans
Department of Cultural Affairs Secretary Stuart Ashman (left) talks with Economic Development Secretary Rick Homans (right) during the New Mexico Museum of Space History Governor’s Commission meeting held at the museum on Friday April 27. Homans emphasized the importance of the new space industry in southern New Mexico to the Commission and pointed out that the expansion of the X PRIZE CUP to Holloman Air Force Base this October is an example of how beneficial this industry will be to the region as a whole.
During the meeting, Randall Hayes was introduced to the commission as the museum’s new director, effective June 4. Hayes has directed a number of larger museums and has a background in working to enlarge existing facilities.
The Commission voted unanimously to create a sub-committee to form a long term plan for the museum. The committee would look at the needs of the museum several years into the future, especially considering the facility’s recent designation as the official repository for Spaceport America. A focus will also be a proposed new building and will take into account not only the needs of the museum itself, but the needs of the community.
