Poet Jimmy Santiago Baca Reads At Macey Center

New Mexico Tech will celebrate National Poetry Month with a reading by internationally-acclaimed poet Jimmy Santiago Baca, Tuesday, April 18, 7 p.m., at the Jean Macey Music Annex.

Recognized internationally, Jimmy Santiago Baca is a literary artist of New Mexico, and his writing resonates of sights, sounds, and experiences to which our students and community members can relate.

Born of Chicano and Apache descent, Jimmy Santiago Baca is the winner of numerous awards, including the Pushcart Prize, the American Book Award, the National Poetry Award, the International Hispanic Heritage Award, and the International Prize for his memoir, A Place to Stand.

His publications include seven books of poetry and three books of prose--one of short fiction, his memoir, and a forthcoming novel. In addition, he has written movie scripts, including Bound by Honor, Disney Productions, Hollywood Pictures, 1992. He received his Ph.D. in Literature in 2003.

A book signing and reception will follow the reading. This event is part of the Visiting Poet Series, sponsored by the Humanities Department and Academic Affairs. It is free and open to the public.
