In addition to the theater’s headlining performances of “The Best of Moscow Ballet” featuring its outstanding troupe of Russian dancers on Friday, November 9th and a Christmas concert with Country diva Lynn Anderson on Friday, November 23rd; two ‘pop-up” film events (not appearing in the theater’s season brochure) have been added to the mix: the premiere of the new western-historical film “Requiem for Billy The Kid” on Saturday, November 3rd and an extreme ski & snowboard Warren Miller action movie and equipment trade show on Saturday, November 10th.

Excellent seats are available to every show. Call the Spencer Theater at 505.336.4800 or go online at www.spencertheater.com (http://www.spencertheater.com/) for tickets or information.

Details are as follows:

On Friday, November 9th at 8 p.m. The Best of Moscow Ballet ($46 & $43) forty-four professional Russian dancers with the renowned Moscow Ballet Company will perform three original one-act ballets drawn from their rich repertoire: adaptations from the classics “Carmen,” and “Romeo & Juliet” and the Russian folk tale “Vasilisa,” which is often called the ‘Russian Cinderella.’ The works feature beautiful, original classical scores by Bizet, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov and fresh, contemporary choreography by famed Russian choreographer Anatoli Emalyanov. The company’s Prima Ballerina is Irina Surneva, and Honored Artist of Russia.

<font color="black"><font face="Arial Narrow"><font size="2"><table align=left cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 border=0><caption align=bottom><font size=2 face="Arial Narrow" color=black>Some of the company’s dancers will hold a free Master Class for area dancers and visitors on the Spencer stage.</font></caption><tr><td><img src=http://sonewmex.com/images/spencer_Moscow7.jpg border=1 hspace=5 alt="Some of the company’s dancers will hold a free Master Class for area dancers and visitors on the Spencer stage."></td></tr></table></font></font></font><font color="black"><font face="Arial Narrow"><font size="2"><table align=right cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 border=0><caption align=bottom><font size=2 face="Arial Narrow" color=black>A Christmas concert will feature Country diva Lynn Anderson on Friday, November 23rd.</font></caption><tr><td><img src=http://sonewmex.com/images/spencer_Anderson2150.jpg border=1 hspace=5 alt="A Christmas concert will feature Country diva Lynn Anderson on Friday, November 23rd."></td></tr></table></font></font></font>Earlier in the day, at 5 p.m. Friday, November 9th, some of the company’s dancers -- all of whom have trained at the three top ballet academies in Russia – will hold a free Master Class for area dancers and visitors on the Spencer stage. Dance experience at the intermediate or advanced level is required to participate; beginners are welcome to watch. All student dancers interested in attending the class must R.S.V.P. to the Spencer Box Office by 5 p.m. Wednesday, November 7th. Call the box office at 505.336.4800 for information.

On Friday November 23rd at 8 p.m. (Thanksgiving weekend) it’s A Lynn Anderson Christmas ($49 & $46). Anderson, who is one of the top-ranked female country singers of all time, will sing classic country songs (like her hit “I never Promised You A Rose Garden) and her favorite Christmas tunes like "Jingle Bell Rock," "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," with her band. This will be a fun holiday show that should please both young and old alike. The concert is sponsored in part by Yates Petroleum Corporation.

The two pop-up film events at the theater are described below.

Requiem for Billy the Kid will premier at 2 p.m. November 3rd. ($10), a 90-minute film by a French director that recounts the life of Billy the Kid. Shot in 35mm scope in New Mexico (much of it in Lincoln County), the film is a hybrid bridging the narrative form with traditional documentary filmmaking to create a fresh outlook into an ever-captivating American myth. The premise of the film is an investigation into the often-challenged circumstances that led to the death of the 21-year old outlaw at the hands of sheriff Pat Garrett on July 14, 1881.

Part poetic evocation, part road-movie, “Requiem for Billy the Kid” is essentially homage to the western genre and to the people who today still aspire to that life. Area viewers will recognize some of their neighbors and friends in this movie, which was filmed in 2004. The film will later be showing at the Cannes Film Festival.

Warren Miller Extreme Skiing Movie is scheduled for Saturday, November 10th. The film is being featured at the end of a tradeshow which runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; the 90-minute movie begins at 5:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Inn of the Mountain Gods and Ski Apache, this edgy event features numerous vending booths of winter sports equipment and clothing in the Spencer’s Crystal Lobby, entertainment by the Mescalero Drum Corps, special demonstrations and events for children and the Ruidoso area premiere of the 2007 Warren Miller Extreme Skiing& Snowboarding sports movie “Playground.”

Ticket prices vary for adults and children:
$7 for the film; $5 for children 12 and under
$3 for tradeshow; free for children 12 and under
Producing original action-cinematography for over 58 years, Warren Miller’s extreme snow-sport films feature skiing through blizzards and snowboarding off glaciers in some of the world’s most ruggedly beautiful mountain ranges, many of which are accessed only by helicopters. His work is revered for its highly inventive, beautiful and witty style, and the screenings are legendary for inciting viewers with extreme energy.

His latest film, the 2007 “Playground” rewrites the definition of adventure as the world’s best winter sports athletes embark on a global mission to race against avalanches, discover the deepest snow and tackle the most unusual mountains. Having captured unprecedented snow conditions from around the world, this year’s offering exposes the undiscovered side of winter with spine tingling footage of world class athletes in high-definition.

Part action, part adventure and part documentary with a riveting soundtrack, 'Playground' chronicles extraordinary action and breathtaking cinematography from Sweden, Japan, Dubai (the new ski mountain built inside a shopping mall), Alaska and more. Warren Miller premiers are an experience, a party and a phenomenon not to be missed.

As a special attraction, local snowboarding experts will demonstrate their sport with a temporary rail built on the grounds of the Spencer as part of the day’s tradeshow activities. Call Ski Apache at 505.336.4356 or the Inn of the Mountain Gods at 505.464.7777 for more information.
