Bosque del Apache NWR – The Friends of the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge hosted an artists reception on Oct. 14 to thank the artists/volunteers for their contributions through the year(s).
The reception this year in the beautiful new Christina Ann Lannan Annex gave artists plenty of room to exhibit and allowed people to move freely around the room. It also gave attendees a glimpse into the art that will be featured during the Festival of the Cranes at the Bosque, Nov. 14-19.

Refreshments in the auditorium were presided over by the affable Steve Green, whose volunteer duties include organizing the annual event.

This year’s featured artist for the Festival of the Cranes, Adabel Allen, exhibited some of her works. The intricately designed and professionally executed lithographs, are a study in the art of print making and often push the limits of that medium. Adabel Allen discovered the joys of birding just a few years ago and has developed a great love of bird art. Her friend Victoria Tietje, of Albuquerque, made the trip for the first time and was thrilled with the area. Here, she reads about Adabel and the Festival in the latest print issue of Steppin’ Out.

Sharon Fullingim, whose sculpture of cranes in a corn field now sits at the south end of the pavilion area, also showed some of her tinted etchings as well as smaller sculptures. Sharon is shown here with Jim Platte, a newcomer to the area who also owns Dancing Cranes Import Store in Utah.

Always popular among guests, Skeeter Leard repeatedly had to hold up her poster so that folks could snap pictures of the art and artists. Skeeter is the long time coordinator for the Wildlife Fine Art Show during the Festival.

This year, she was happy to hand over those duties to Leigh Ann Vradenburg, executive director of the Friends of the Bosque.

This year’s reception also featured local poet and volunteer Barbara DuBois, who offered three books of poems. Barbara retired from teaching college English and has had poems published in a number of anthologies, magazines and newspapers. She spends much of her time writing books reviews and travel articles.
